Just love..

You know, I've spent months starting and stopping the writing of a blogpost since Charlotte was born. Seems like everytime I sit down to recap things and explain how amazing the last few months have been, I just get sidetracked or can't get my thoughts together to finish a sentence!  That said.. I'm just gonna start writing and go go go!

Charlotte, you are an amazing little being. You came into the world with pure calmness and beauty - in fact, you were so relaxed and cuddly at first, I was a little worried! You see, babies come out screaming.. they see the brightest of lights, the feel the coldest air, they unravel into a really strange and odd place - so it makes full sense why they'd say "AHHHHH!!!!!!" for their first sound.  In your case, you came quickly, quietly, cuddled right up to your momma, and your eyes were wide open - ready to see what the heck was going on out here. From that moment on, you've been the most incredible little study. You seem to really like listening to people, being near them, and watching things happen - like mom and dad running around the house, your sister jumping and dancing, or (so far your favorite) watching an instrument being played.

The day you were born, your Mom and I were in a rush rush rush. We just wanted to meet you so bad, we wanted to see everything go smoothly and couldn't wait to hold you. We were so restless, we decided to run around town - going shopping for weird stuff, just walking around. It was so funny, we went to Fred Meyers and had to stop every few minutes - like immediately stop what we were doing and stand there - while your Mom went through some pretty strong contractions. It was just you practicing, getting ready to take your trip  and come see us out here. A few times we had to stop right in the middle of the walkway and just hold still while you practiced. Once you got tired of practicing, you decided it was time to really give it your best shot...

We went to the birthing center and told the midwife's that your Mom wanted to have you come out 'all natural'. That just means she didn't want any drugs or medication mucking things up for you.  She also wanted to have labor in the bathtub so that you'd be nice and cozy at first, and not too cold. It was so beautiful - your Mom put all her heart and all her love into helping you make the trip all safe and comfy! You came into this world, in the bathtub, 'all natural' and stuff..  and then your mom kissed you and hugged you, and your Dad cried like a sissy - but that's ok, because love is very powerful and your Daddy loves you immensely.

The midwife's got you all cleaned up and checked to make sure things were working right - and of course, you were perfect. You weighed almost 7LBS and you had lots of silky brown hair on your head. Right away, we could see the mix of your Mom and Dad in you, but you really just had your own perfect unique looks. You were pretty long, and the doctors say you are on pace to be a long tall girl when you get older!  The three of us only stayed at the birthing center for a couple hours, and then we went home and sat on the couch and cuddled. That night was one of the best moments of my life, and I'll never forget how much love you created right in the center of my heart that night.

The next day, your sister came home from visiting your godparents (Jimmy and Cami) and everyone was excited to steal some cuddles - yes, you are quite the cuddler. Even your sister Olivia got some cuddle time and helped you with your pacifier. She patted your head and your belly, and said she loved you very much. Even now, she says you are her best friend.

Since the night you were born, things have been pretty busy! We try to slow down alot, but most of the time we're all just buzzing around being goofy (you'll see pretty soon just how goofy we are). Your sister Olivia has been really looking out for you too! She's always making sure people are gentle with you. I think you two are going to have a pretty amazing time together.  I can't wait to see what kind of adventures you'll have, and really look forward to going along with you both. While things have been busy, we've managed to do some fun things together too - we've gone to parties, we take walks, play in the backyard, go for short trips - but mostly, we've all just enjoyed being together and learning more about you.

So far, we have figured out a few special things about you...  we know you really like to eat! Your Momma spends lots of time making sure you get all you can eat, and you really like when she rubs your neck and says sweet things while you're eating. We know you like noise - and lots of it! The best way to help you fall asleep is to turn on every single fan in the house. Sometimes at night, I think there's a jetplane in our house - but you love it, and we kinda love it now too.  We know that you love acoustic guitar and soft singing. You see, right now you have something silly called "colic" - which just means you can get worked up and cry real loud for a little bit. One way to help you calm down, is to play acoustic guitar for you and sing songs (real soft-soft). You wind down quick, and seem to love The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Ben Harper. We also found out that you love to be outside! That's your favorite place to be! Anytime you're not feeling so great, we just cuddle you up and go walk around outside. You smell the fresh air, stare at the trees, and listen to the birds. When you get a little older, we'll make sure to go on lots of hikes so that you can learn more and more about the outdoors.

Going forward, everyday is a mysterious new blessing - I just mean, we never know what we'll learn next about you, and we're always so thankful for the moments we share. You've brought so much happiness to our lives. You're just beautiful and loving, and as your Daddy I couldn't be more proud. When I look at you I feel like a mountain, and I know that no matter what life has in store - it's gonna be ok because you're here and I get to be your Daddy. I love you so much - as much as my mountain arms can stretch - and even more than that.

P.S. - Today you made your sister smile, and she made you smile, and you both made mom and dad smile. Thank you for such sweet smiles :)
